Pre-Paid Legal Services Story image AskJimmyJohnson.comAlthough I am not a distributor for Pre-Paid Legal Services, I have been a client for about 11 years and have benefited from the services. Pre-Paid Legal was founded in 1972 by Harland C. Stonecipher. In 1969, Harland was a victim of not only a horrible car crash but also the legal expenses that followed and wiped him out financially. Harland later learned that in Europe, people actually paid a form of insurance that protected against expensive legal costs. It was that discovery that lead to the creation of Pre-Paid Legal Services.

Through the marketing efforts of direct selling, Pre-Paid Legal grew over the years to the point where Forbes magazine again in November 2010 ranked Pre-Paid Legal Services as number 78 out of the 100 best companies in America. Many in the MLM and network marketing industry have built huge organizations representing Pre-Paid Legal. The company has had its growing pains and challenges but still continues to offer an opportunity for everyday people to go into business for themselves, offering a product that everyone benefits from. The company continues to evolve with products for the times, such as offering protection for small businesses and group plans.  The most recent addition was Identity Theft Shield.

When I first saw the announcement that Pre-Paid Legal was changing ownership and becoming Legal Shield I was impressed by the financial backing they bring to the business. I still have not received official notification from the company of the change and the new website is not active, but I expect continued growth and innovation from the new executive team over the coming months and years.
