Somehow in my internet surfing I came across an offer from one of my favorite authors and what I consider a money mentor. T. Harv Eker, author of Secrets of the Millionaire Mind has a free report that can be downloaded for free titled:  Millionaire Mind for Network Marketers. It is a quick read. I read it in less than an hour and was blown away by how much insight could be passed along in less then 40 pages on proper thinking to obtain successful results in MLM or network marketing. One thing you have to understand as all leaders teach, MLM and network marketing is a mental game. It is all about how you think that determines your levels of success or failure.

About seven years ago, along with some team members, I attended a three day Millionaire Mind Intensive live event in Southern California. Intensive is the right word for it. It was anything but fun and games even though there was fun and games present. Harv Eker showed up to work and he expected those in attendance to work also. The Days started early and went late, one night we didn’t get back to our room till after 11pm. I can’t go into much detail about the program here because we were asked not to do because you need to attend this event with an open mind. Like parachutes, that’s when minds work best.

Robert Kiyosaki’s best-selling book, “Rich Dad – Poor Dad” spent years on the New York Times best seller list. It was self published and was discovered, being displayed for sale on a bookshelf in a car wash. A successful network marketing leader came across the book, started reading it, saw the value in its message and bought every available copy for his downline. The rest as they say is history. Rich Dad – Poor Dad has been a recommended must read for most network marketers, especially new recruits entering the industry. The book spells out perfectly how our educational system produces good employees by programming us to pursue good grades and good jobs. Robert Kiyosaki does an excellent job of explaining how this has occurred over the past decades and how to think outside the lie of taking care of a company and the company taking care of you forever. Once a reality, those days are long behind us.

Many networkers read Rich Dad – Poor Dad but I am amazed how many people I have talked to who never made it to the Robert Kiyosaki followup book, “Cashflow Quadrant“. In Robert’s first book he explains what the rich teach their children about money that the poor and middle class do not. That is actually the book’s sub-title. In Cashflow Quadrant, Robert teaches in more detail what you can do with this knowledge to take control of yours and you family’s financial destiny forever.

Robert is a strong proponent of MLM, direct selling and network marketing. He teaches that these business models level the playing field with any other business regardless of its size.  An individual can start in the E Quadrant as an employee to build a MLM business without jeopardizing their employee paycheck. Starting part-time or even spare-time they can work their way into the S Quadrant becoming self employed. Too many people get stuck in the S Quadrant as salespeople and may be happier there than when they were working for a boss. This is actually very hard work but many find it an improvement over working for a boss and that alone is fine for most.

Those who learn how to plug people into a system enjoy the benefits of leverage. This is the B Quadrant for business. These people understand that a system runs a business and that it’s people who run the system. When properly built this system can produce a lifetime of residual income and actually be sold off one day or passed on to future generations of family members. You just need to plug in people which is what we live for anyway.

The I Quadrant is where everyone should want to be. This is the Investor Quadrant. Business owners are the high earners in our economic system and should find ways to put their money to work rather than spending it as quickly as it is earned. Even if an owner just saved and invested enough money over the years to amass a million dollars, just an eight percent return on that investment would provide an $80,000 income without ever touching the original principle or even having to get out of bed or leave the beach.

This is just a quick overview of the book Cashflow Quadrant and I hope you take the time to read this book if you haven’t already. If you have I suggest you read it again. The knowledge in these two books is what makes you valuable and attractive as a leader in this industry. It’s all about timing!

We’ve heard that before haven’t we? Just a quick note to new network marketers and MLM business owners. Experienced marketers who aren’t getting desired results might want to take note also. When we talk to a “hot” prospect, naturally we expect them to get started with us immediately. If you aren’t thinking that way then chances are you’re not attracting and recruiting the kind of and number of people you need to build a big organization.

You must understand that a quality MLM or network marketing business has to be built on attraction more so than promotion. This is why Magnetic Prospecting has been such a huge success. We are the ones who have to become a representative or leader that prospects want to be associated with. If working with you in your opportunity is such a great deal then there is never a reason for arm twisting or begging. We present our best case for our company and for working with us and then answer any questions that may arise. I am sure you are only talking to people who are intelligent enough to make decisions for themselves. It is important to understand that the timing is always right for us but not necessarily for our prospect. It is important to recognize and respect their position. I have seen prospects come back a day later and even a year later. Why? only because the timing became right for the prospect, they didn’t feel pressured and didn’t witness begging.

We must always have the “on to the next one” attitude, not a cold-blooded who cares about them attitude. Keep in mind always that there is someone out there right now looking for exactly what you have to offer. Se we must keep moving forward. However, events do change in everyone’s life and it may be just a matter of time before the person you talked to last month becomes open to yours or an opportunity like yours. You may have run into an old prospect months later working with another company or worse yet in your company with someone else. This happens more than you can imagine.

The Solution

Follow-up. Of course the prospect that asks to stay in touch, you will do so with occasional phone updates. A lot of those people will eventually become a customer or team member. The follow up I’m talking about is a structured email campaign. To do this you just need to ask if it’s okay to drop an occasional line via email. Offer to share information that you feel they might find interesting. (Notice I said drop a line not send emails and share information not send emails).

You can do this effortlessly with a tool called an auto-responder. An auto-responder from a company like Aweber or  Get Response will allow you to not only set up systematic follow-up email campaigns spread over any period of time you desire, but you can also use it to broadcast special announcements or offerings.

The Money is in the List

We’ve heard that one forever too, and it is true. See the second benefit of email follow-up is that over time you will be building one or more list that you can market not only opportunity but also affiliate programs that they may benefit from. Since everyone is always buying something from someone why shouldn’t they buy from you? They will when they realize that you actually care and want to establish a relationship.
