Google+ Ask Jimmy Johnson Network Marketing Success blog - Part 6

Be a salesperson Ask Jimmy Johnson Network Marketing Success BlogOne of the biggest objections heard by MLM and direct sales prospectors and recruiters is “I don’t want to be a salesperson”. Sales is an honorable profession, and people are constantly selling whether they realize it or not, However, because of stereotypes fueled by TV and films, most people would rather chew off an arm than be seen as a salesperson. In a free downloadable book titled “Everyone is a Salesperson” by Brian Tracy, Mr. Tracy points out:  “One of the hallmarks of the successful person in every field is that he is influential and persuasive in his interactions with other people. He has the ability to get other people to cooperate with him to achieve his goals and fulfill his aspirations. The truly successful person is the one who can influence the greatest number of people in a common direction to help him get more of the things he wants in life”. The key word there is influence. People do not realize they are selling ideas nearly anytime they come face to face with another human being. Where most people have issues is when they think others will think less of them because there may be compensation paid to the person doing the presenting. Prospects may also feel that selling is a skill they can not master.

The public does not realize that 14.7 million Americans make their living from selling something to someone. It is the largest single, identifiable occupational group in the United States. But, everyday, everybody does some form of selling. We sell people on ideas all the time, from what movie to watch to which cell phone to use. Our job is to get people to understand that they are already salespeople when they throw up the “I don’t want to be a salesperson” objection.

If you are already working in direct sales, it is important that you read this free book “Everyone is a Salesperson“. You need the information in this book to learn how to overcome your prospects’ objections to not joining you in business. You may also have existing team members in your downline who can use a mental tune-up on the perception of sales and salespeople. What you will learn in this book is GAP analysis which is explained in detail. You must learn how to get people to see the gain of working with you and alleviating the pain of not making changes in their current, undesirable situation. Share this book with your serious prospects by sending them an email with this link http://bit.ly/BTe1Sales and letting them know that you believe they would be able to help a lot of people due to their integrity and credibility. Just make sure you are being honest when you convey this message to your prospects and team members.

#Hashtags in your network marketing success revisited

Marketing with hashtags Ask Jimmy Johnson Network Marketing Success BlogSome time ago I posted about Twitter hashtags in “Twitter Hashtags and Your Network Marketing Success“. Since then hashtags have become a vital part of being found in social media search results. For 2012, the American Dialect Society crowned ‘hashtag’ the word of the year and one couple actually names their child Hashtag. So you can see since my first posting that hashtags are here to stay and you need to be taking advantage of them now. Hashtags are an easy way for Twitter users to categorize Tweets that share a common topic or belong to a particular group such as MLM or NetworkMarketing. Notice there is n spacing in a hashtag term. The hashtag is used to highlight keywords or topics within a Twitter tweet, and can be placed anywhere within a post. Today we even see the hashtag used by big business and celebrities to in their marketing to promote their brands.

Any tweet posted on a public account can be searched by anyone, and posters often use hashtags to help direct searches to their posts. For example, Twitter users can elect to follow all tweets that include the hashtag #WhiteSox to receive updates about the Chicago White Sox baseball team. Users looking for the best fuel prices can search for #cheapgas. When properly used, Twitter hashtags can be a powerful social media tool for business promotion and trend tracking. A good place to track trends is www.whatthetrend.com. According to Twitter, in 2011 over 10 percent of all tweets contained one or more hashtags. With an average of 140 million tweets and half a million new accounts created every day, it is easy to see why users need some way of sorting through all these messages. It is also easy to see the power of finding topics or interest to yourself as well as allowing your tweets to be found and stand out in a noisy social media crowd.

Today more than ever social media users are using the hashmark to get right to their subjects of interest. Be careful of overusing hashtags in your post. According to The Twitter Rules, Twitter accounts will be deemed to be “spamming” if used to post numerous updates using a # that are unrelated to the hashtag topic or group, resulting in permanent suspension of the offending account. Once you start a following, one of the worst things that could happen is the suspension of your Twitter account. Currently, it is acceptable to tag only significant posts that will contribute to the general conversation with one hashtag. Using two hashtags is acceptable, especially when one of the # tags includes an actual location, such as #LasVegas. According to Wikihow, using three hashtags in one Tweet is the absolute maximum, and doing so risks “raising the ire of the community.”

To keep in mind:

Hashtags are used to categorize tweets by keyword:

  • People use the hashtag symbol # before a relevant keyword or phrase (no spaces) in their tweet to categorize those Tweets and help them show more easily in Twitter Search.

  • Clicking on a hashtagged word in any message shows you all other tweets marked with that keyword.

  • Hashtags can occur anywhere in the tweet – at the beginning, middle, or end.

  • Hashtagged words that become very popular are often Trending Topics.

Remember:

Using hashtags correctly:

  • If you tweet with a hashtag on a public account, anyone who does a search for that hashtag may find your Tweet

  • Don’t #spam #with #hashtags. Don’t over-tag a single tweet. (Best practices recommend using no more than 2 hashtags per tweet.)

  • Use hashtags only on tweets relevant to the topic.

Rich Dad Poor Dad recommends network marketing and MLM the business of the 21st century

I had been working in network marketing for some years when Robert Kiyosaki’s best-selling book “Rich Dad, Poor” hit the scene in 2000. However, the book was self published in the year 1997, the same year I started in network marketing.  It was an instant success once people started reading the book and remains in the top of many best-selling books lists today. The subtitle of this book tells it all “What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money–That the Poor and the Middle Class Do Not!” The book received much praise but was not without criticism. The teachings in this book go against what most people in America were raised to believe. Going against 19th century thinking was uncomfortable for many. I personally introduced the book to close friends and family members who rejected the message and literally became victims of the economy described in his prophecy. By the way Rich Dad’s Prophecy is one of Robert’s follow-up books which gave warning of the shattered economy we live in today.

Prior to the Rich Dad, Poor Dad publication, I think one of the closest books to explain why it is so important to build a business and not get caught up in owning your own job was “The E-Myth” by Michael E. Gerber. This is also a highly recommended book to read for anyone wanting to build a successful business.

I could write pages on how important the Robert Kiyosaki, Rich Dad message is to those building or considering building a MLM or network marketing business but the video below is the best way to convey the message of why it is a real necessity to be in business for yourself and how network marketing and direct selling is the perfect vehicle for anyone to get started building their own business.

Be sure to share this video with your team and with those considering joining you in your business.

How to Become a Network Marketing Pro

Network Marketing Pros - Ask Jimmy Johnson Network Marketing Success BlogTo become a network marketing pro you must first decide to treat your MLM opportunity like a business. Every business person wants to be successful and that means laying it all out on the line. People who open businesses do not stick their toe in it or “give it a try”, leave that for bowling or horseshoes. You must make a decision that you will dedicate time and effort necessary to get your business off the ground. Even on a part-time basis in the beginning. To become a network marketing pro you must put all distractions aside. Does that mean neglect your family or loved ones? No, it means that if you are serious about building a real business then all available resources must be allocated to the business of building your business. Many successful MLM businesses actually grow with the participation of family and loved ones. I know many young people who were raised in a direct sales families, they helped where they could and have grown up to be above average citizens as a result. Some have gone on to create their own successful direct sales organizations or even taking over a well established network marketing family business.

Second, a person has to understand that in order to build a legendary MLM organization, it is necessary to grow into a person of influence. Network marketing organizations are built by a person who recruits followers in search of other leaders. This means you must professionalize yourself into a leader. In all cases this means learning everything your company and organization has to offer. Learn from successful people who have already done it. This is not an industry of reinventing the wheel. As networkers, just like franchisees, we buy into a proven system of success. Franchisees pay tens and even hundreds of thousands of dollars to get access to a franchise company’s proven success system. In network marketing we have the same opportunity but, at a fraction of the franchise start-up cost.

Leaders in network marketing are always looking for new talent who are motivated to take charge and build their business within another’s business. Once you show you are serious about building a real business, a mentor in your upline will bend over backwards to help you grow as fast as possible into a leadership position. So always remember, actions speaker louder than words. Most people talk a good talk. Show your upline that you are serious. Never miss events but just as importantly never show up to events alone. Success MLM businesses are built at the big events that your company or upline put on not only to motivate and educate but also to help you build your business. There is nothing more powerful than the energy created at big events whether it is your weekly meeting or the company convention. Get people there. Never miss events.

Readers are leaders. We have heard that from the beginning of direct selling. Read! I am sure your company and upline leadership have recommended books that will help you grow into a network marketing professional. Doctors, attorneys, CPAs and all others professionals do not stop reading just because they graduate with some degree or are licensed. You must always be growing, always getting better in order to have value for those looking for an opportunity and someone to lead them to success. There are books that are classics across all companies in this industry. Find them and read them. There is a list on this blog (Jim’s Reading) and I am constantly making reference to must read books. Attend our free weekly, live video webinars.

Lead by example. More is caught than taught. People just like children will see what you say but hear what you are doing. Show people how it is done. That includes being coachable to your upline leader. You must first learn to follow before you can expect anyone to consider following you. These points are a great start in becoming a network marketing pro. Get started today.

Content of Character post at AskJimmyJohnson.com Network Marketing Success BLog

This being the birthday of Martin Luther King as well as the second inauguration of President Obama many have been given the day off. It is a day that gives us the time and a lot to reflect upon. What comes to mind for me is being “judged by the content of character” and I have not found a place where this is more true than in MLM and network marketing. If you have spent any time around a direct sales organization, the diversity of that group is stunningly obvious. The second thing you may notice is how happy people are and how everyone works together for the advancement of all. In a past post “President Bill Clinton and network marketing”, the ex-president pointed out that out over 300,000 networkers are over the age of 65, more than 500,000 have some form of disability plus nearly three-quarters are women, all working without the glass ceiling that other companies may present. To the best of my knowledge network marketing has always offered opportunity based on content of character, not on the color of skin, age or gender of sex (my first experience dates back to the mid 60s). For many, network marketing opens doors to opportunity that may have never been offered by Corporate America. In today’s economy where many have been ushered out the door in early retirement, many unemployed find they were not prepared for not working. Many who are laid off are not at a qualified age for Social Security  benefits and nowhere near financial independence. So you can see why the times are ripe for offering the network marketing business model to the masses.

Today, there are so many good people out there suffering. They are looking for a break and too many of them have either not heard of network marketing or have not been presented by the right person in the right manner. Sometimes a person may have been presented with an opportunity but the timing was not right. This is why follow-up and staying is touch is so important.

Take the rest of the day to reflect on what attracted you to your opportunity. Be thankful for not only what you have your hands on but also what you have to offer others. Remember, a true opportunity is when you can offer what you have and even more to others.  Whatever you do, do not prejudge anyone. Give everyone a chance to prove themselves. Look for friendly people who respond to your hellos and are willing to give you a little time to explain yourself. Offer everyone, but push no one. Within three to four minutes a prospect either sees it or does not. In that same period of time you will also get a pretty good feel for who you are talking to. You do not need everybody, your job is to find the people who are looking for you and what you have to offer. They are out there and you will find them if you just keep your eyes open and talk to people.

This message holds true even for internet or web-based prospecting and recruiting systems such as MLSP. It’s just that online you will have access to more people faster. So, when dealing with people, always remember, “The content of your character is a choice. Day by day, what you choose, what you think and what you do is who you become” ~ Heraclitus.
